Pinetop-Lakeside Appoints Paul Watson to Town Council
PINETOP-LAKESIDE, Ariz. – The Town of Pinetop-Lakeside last night appointed Paul Watson to fill a vacant seat on the Town Council created by the resignation of Kathy Dahnk in November. Mr. Watson was one of eight applicants to fill the vacant seat. The others were James Brimhall, Taber Heisler, Wayne Booher, William Roberts, Derrick Cavey, Dylan Baca, and Derrick Brown.
Mr. Watson has spent most of his career in public service, most recently as Assistant County Manager/Economic Development Director for Navajo County, a position he held from 2015 until he retired last year. He also served as Town Manager for the Town of Snowflake from 2007 to 2015 and Town Manager and Finance Director for the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside from 1985 to 2004. He also is a board member for several organizations, including Summit Regional Medical Center, Northern Arizona Council of Governments Regional Council, REAL AZ Development Council, and the White Mountains Partnership, among others.
“We were very fortunate to have such a strong slate of candidates to consider for this appointment,” said Mayor Stephanie Irwin. “Each one of the applicants brought a unique set of skills and vision to the table and that made our decision a very difficult one to make. I want to thank all the applicants who decided to step up and were willing to serve our community. It took courage for each of them to put themselves under the spotlight and I am grateful to have such willing community leaders among our residents.”
“I am humbled that the Town Council has placed its trust and confidence in me to serve as a councilmember,” said Mr. Watson. “I was very impressed by the quality of the applicants for the seat and any one of them would have been an asset to the council. I look forward to serving my community and working alongside the other members of the Town Council.”
Mr. Watson’s term will expire on November 17, 2022.
