Pinetop-Lakeside Adopts Town Code Change
Prohibiting Domestic Animals on Athletic Fields and Playground Equipment
PINETOP-LAKESIDE, AZ
The Town of Pinetop-Lakeside has enacted a new municipal code to enhance safety and cleanliness in public recreational areas. Effective Monday, April 8, 2024, no domestic animals shall be permitted on athletic fields or within 10 feet of Town-owned playground equipment. The prohibition extends to special events, including the White Mountains Balloon Festival, the Town’s Easter celebration, Autumn Fest, and all other events on athletic fields.
This decision, unanimously approved by the Town Council on March 7, 2024, comes after careful consideration and consultation with local residents, community leaders, and health and safety experts. The prohibition aims to create a safer environment for residents and visitors alike, particularly children who utilize the playground equipment and participants in athletic activities.
"The safety and well-being of our community members, especially our children, are our top priorities," said Pinetop-Lakeside Mayor Stephanie Irwin. "By implementing this new code, we are taking proactive measures to mitigate potential risks associated with the presence of domestic animals in close proximity to recreational areas."
The code will be enforced by Town officials and law enforcement agencies. Violators may be subject to fines or other penalties as outlined in the municipal code.
"This action impacts only about seven acres of the Town’s 158 acres of public parkland. We urge all residents and visitors to comply with this new regulation for the benefit of everyone in our community," added Mayor Irwin. "We appreciate the cooperation of pet owners in helping us maintain safe and enjoyable recreational spaces for all and to protect and return to the intended use of athletic fields.”
The Town of Pinetop-Lakeside remains committed to promoting a healthy and vibrant community, and this new code reflects its ongoing efforts to prioritize the safety and welfare of its residents.
